Description
Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra brings heroes, heroines, and the power of live orchestral music to Airdrie. Legends never die. This October, the Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra (RMSO) presents Heroes & Heroines at Bert Church LIVE Theatre on Sunday, Oct. 18.
Conducted by Gareth Jones, the concert brings together bold fanfares, cinematic heroes and the sweeping power of the symphonic repertoire in music celebrating courage, resilience, and triumph. Heroes & Heroines celebrates the many forms that heroism can take.
Each work on the programme brings a different kind of hero or heroine to life. Joan Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman celebrates women who are bold, adventurous, and willing to take risks. John Williams’ Superman gives us the larger-than-life superhero, while Beethoven’s Egmont Overture tells the story of a man who sacrifices himself in the fight for freedom. Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2 offers another perspective: the heroism of a people. Its powerful and hopeful music resonated deeply with Finnish audiences during a period of Russian rule and became closely associated with Finnish national identity. Together, these works remind us that heroes aren't always caped or celebrated. They can be the people who take risks, stand up for others, or simply give us the courage to keep going.
The RMSO is committed to bringing professional orchestral music to local communities, giving audiences the opportunity to experience live orchestral performances close to home. Its concerts throughout the region are an important part of the orchestra’s mission to make orchestral music accessible to a broad range of audiences. "We're proud to bring professional orchestral music to communities close to home," says Donna Finley, Chair of the RMSO Board. "Our performance in Airdrie give local audiences the opportunity to experience the energy and excitement of a live orchestra right in their own community.”
